National Electronic Mass Media Council of Latvia

The Council is an independent, fully autonomous institution.

The Council, within its competence, represents the interests of society in the field of electronic mass media.

The Council monitors that the activities of electronic mass media comply with the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia, the Electronic Mass Media Law and other regulatory acts.

The Council is a derived public entity.

The necessary funding for the functions of the Council is allocated from the state budget.

The Council consists of 5 members elected by the parliament (Saeima).

Council members are elected to office for a term of 5 years.

The Council elects a chairman and vice chairman from among its members.

A secretariat has been established to ensure the functions of the Council.

The Council secretariat consists of 20 employees.
